Description

After taking this picture, I remembered a fabula my granny used to tell me as bedtime story. I do not know, if it is known in other countries than Germany, but I always loved this special fabula. And this is my personal retelling of the story, of what I remember my granny told me.

Once upon a time a fox was strolling through the forest. Suddenly he smelled something wonderful. Looking up he spied a raven with a large hunk of cheese in its beak.

The fox knew for sure, that the raven never would share this delicate piece of food with him and so he made up a plan.

He sat under the tree, let out a loud sight and started to talk to the raven.

„Oh Master Raven, how lucky I am to meet you.“ The fox put on an admiring smile, while the raven look at him very suspicious.

The fox continued.

„Oh Master Raven, all of the inhabitants of this large and wonderful forest told me, that you have such a beautiful voice, that they all love to hear you sing all kinds of songs.“

The rave shook his feathers and really looked proud, but still could not answer because he had the cheese in his beak.

The fox stayed silent for several minutes and then let out another deep sight.

„So, it seems that the others were lying to me, because you are still silent. What a pity.“

The fox get up and turned around to walk away.

The raven was caught by his pride … opened up his beak and let out a loud and nearly deafening „CRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWW“

By opening the beak the cheese fell down and the fox, even when his ears were humming, caught the cheese and swallowed it.

And the moral of the story... do not fall for compliments by stranges, especially you have something special.

There's a little scene like that in the old film Le Roman de Renard (The Tale of the Fox): www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyTscB…; it happens about 4 minutes in.  (Just my luck. The only video I could find is one of those made with a video camera pointed at a screen.)
